Red Nose Day

I am delighted to report that College House raised just over £125 for Red Nose charities. As well as a mufti day, we sold beer and hotdogs that evening and invited the Gilson girls to join us.

Captain of Cricket announced

Decade Circus

The BTEC musicians entertained us last week in a captivating concert of solos and duets.  Nick Bond sang three of his own compositions and  The Plaigiarists (Bunty and Tom Waldron-vocals; Nick Bond-guitar; Ashley Copeland-saxaphone and Ehren Elcock-drums) performed All along the watchtower, American Pie, Lucky and Queen's iconic We are the champions. The audience were dancing in the aisles!

The annual ball at Queen Anne's School took place a few weeks ago. As ever, our lightfooted and silky movers strutted their stuff and Year 13 boys put on a wonderful show although the only one to strike gold was Zac Jones who won the Social Foxtrot.

Tom' England Honours!

Last weekend Tom Howe furthered  his blossoming rugby career when he represented his country at U18 level. Tom started on the wing for England U18s in their match against Scotland. Although for once he didn't score, he was central to a stunning try which showed his pace, agility and wonderful passing accuracy. You can catch it on facebook and I will endeavour to post it on this Blog.

Shiplake College rowers compete for GB Selection

Shiplake College’s Senior Rowing Squad was inspired to train hard during the pupils’   half-term holiday. Not only is the Schools’ Head approaching on their Competitions Calendar, with Thursday 7^th March heavily penciled in, but six boys also had the additional incentive of GB Rowing Trials.

Daniel Barrett, Michael Glover, Max Hearnden, Marek Lapham, Dominic Parnell and Harry Vardigans comprised an optimistic Shiplake contingent heading for the bitterly cold waters hosting the GB Rowing Trials in Boston, Lincolnshire.

On the Saturday the top pair from Shiplake was Vardigans and Lapham as they finished 8^th out of 44 boats over the 5km course. Glover and Lapham were not far behind finishing 14^th.

The Sunday of the trials always provides a test as the boys change partners and quickly have to form an alliance with a rower from another school. Results were not quite as successful as Saturday with Lapham producing the best result coming in 20^th.With most of the Shiplake oarsmen finishing in the twenties they will still hope for an invite to the next test in the GB selection process, the Spring Assessment.
